The in-house rehabilitation department at the Rouse Estate offers Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy services. Many of the residents are short stay residents that receive extensive rehabilitation services. The residents that are admitted for short term rehabilitation have an average length of stay of about four weeks prior to their discharge to home.

The Rouse Estate Rehabilitation team is dedicated to providing the highest quality therapy to our residents. The skillful team of professional therapists are committed to making a difference in the lives of our residents. The goals of the department are to improve resident quality of life, enhance physical and mental well being, and helping residents achieve their maximum functioning level. The Rouse Estate Rehabilitation team is comprised of highly dedicated professionals including physical and occupational therapists and speech-language pathologist. All therapy services are provided five days per week for short and long term residents.

Our Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistants enhance mobility through the use of skilled, hands on treatments, functional techniques which improve strength, balance and endurance. Resident's pain is assessed and managed with the use of modalities and functional mobility to help aid in tissue healing, comfort and to enhance overall wellness. Treatment methods may include exercise, stretches, massage, electrical stimulation, hydrotherapy, ultrasound, and therapeutic moist heat treatments.

Our Occupational Therapist and Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants help the residents reach their maximum potential in areas of activities of daily living. With the use of strengthening, balance activities, visual perceptual skills, energy conservation and the use of adaptive equipment, the resident is taught how to enhance their quality of life. By directing and observing a resident carrying out selected tasks, the therapist can help the resident enhance performance, restore function, and promote and maintain health.

Our Speech-Language Pathologist focuses on diagnosing and treatment of speech, language, cognitive issues, swallowing disorders, malnutrition, dehydration, weight loss, and other medical complications that arise from the aging process, disease or illness. Teamwork between the Speech-Language Pathologist, Dieticians, and Nursing staff enhance the swallowing programs by ensuring that recommendations are encouraged and monitored regularly. Family and Staff training is provided regularly.

First Nursing Facility in Warren County to Offer "Vital Stim"

Vital Stimulation therapy is provided at the Rouse Estate by our qualified speech language pathologist. This therapy incorporates an electrical stimulation system to stimulate inactive swallowing musculature commonly found in patients with dysphasia. Using this procedure allows for a resident to regain or relearn functional muscle patterns necessary to initiate or re-establish swallowing.
