Our Dementia Unit consists of 28 beds to serve persons with Alzheimer's Disease and/or related disorder. The Rouse Home believes that a specialized unit will assist our residents to maintain their level of independence for as long as possible. to allow our residents sheltered freedom we have key pad entry. This allows residents to ambulate safely. We serve ambulatory as well as non-ambulatory residents and provide continued care throughout the stages of the disease.
Our Staff
All staff are trained in dementia care to enhance the lives of our resident with Alzheimer's Disease and/or related disorder. We recognize our residents as unique individuals with needs and abilities. We continually work to keep all staff and volunteers specially trained in dementia care. Volunteers are a valuable asset to our unit as well.
Daily Routine
Recreational activities are encouraged for all residents on a daily basis. Special group activities are conducted both on the unit as well as in the large recreation room.
We strive for an environment that is comfortable for our residents and for a low stress atmosphere. Our enclosed courtyard is a favorite spot during warm weather.
We have two dining areas on the unit and have two seatings. One room is for residents who require minimal assist, the other is for those requiring more assistance.
Televisions are discouraged on the unit as they tend to distract residents and caouse increased anxiety. For residents who do have television, staff is asked to screen viewing.
Family Involvement
Families and friends are an important part in the success of the Alzheimer's Unit. Keeping communication open with family also enhances team approach. We encourage frequent visits. Family Council is a support group ofinterested family and friends of our residents. Meetings are held every 3 months. We value the input of family members on a regular basis as well as at care plan meetings.
